1970s+: Modern Revival
The United States Bicentennial in 1976 sparked renewed interest in traditional crafts, folk arts, and quilt history, setting the stage for the modern quilt revival and the growth of the quilt show movement. Centennial and patriotic quilt themes, which had appeared at every major national milestone since the Revolution, returned once again.
This era saw quilting transition from a primarily domestic and utilitarian practice into a recognized art form and organized hobby, with guilds, shows, and publications supporting a new generation of quilters interested in both making and preserving the tradition.
